Here’s What To Do Before Calling a Tech.
If your automatic gate won’t open and you don’t know the brand of your controller or motor you’re not alone.
Step 1: Pop Open the Control Box (The Smart Way)
Don’t force it open. Most controller boxes (especially LiftMaster, US Automatic, or Ghost) are locked for safety.
Use the key it came with or a screwdriver.
Look inside for:
– A label or sticker with brand names like LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, GTO/Mule, Viking, etc.
– A model number such as LA400, RSL12U, or GTO PRO
Step 2: Look at the Motor or Arm
Logos may be on the motor housing. For example:
– LiftMaster: red logo or “Chamberlain”
– Ghost Controls: black, rounded motor
– Mighty Mule: plastic actuator arms
– Viking: solid metal motor box
Step 3: Snap a Few Photos for Backup
Take 2 to 3 photos of:
– Control box (inside and outside)
– Gate motor or actuator
– Remote/keypad
